Hedge cutting and trimming in Rugby
Whether it's a neat garden boundary that needs its regular trim or a hedge that's been left for years and is swallowing the path, we'll get it back under control and take the clippings away.
Both directors, Jaydon and Chris, are NPTC certified, and we carry public liability insurance.
Regular trimming
A light, regular trim keeps a hedge dense, tidy and the shape you want. We cut the faces and top straight and even, and leave paths, lawns and borders clear of clippings.
Cutting back overgrown hedges
When a hedge has got too tall or wide, we can take it back harder. How far depends on the species: some hedges grow back well from old wood, while others, such as many conifers, won't green up again if they're cut back too far. We'll tell you honestly what your hedge can take, and whether it's better reduced in stages.
Business and larger hedges
We also cut hedges around business premises, rented properties and longer boundaries. Tell us roughly how long and how tall the hedge is, and what access is like. Whatever the size of the job, a director is always on site, and most of the time both brothers work it together.
Bird nesting season
In spring and summer, we check hedges for nesting birds before we cut.
Background: GOV.UK explains that wild birds, their nests and eggs are protected by law (GOV.UK: wild birds – protection), and that hedgerows on or next to land used for agriculture must not be cut or trimmed from 1 March to 31 August (GOV.UK: hedgerow management rules). Heavier cutting back is usually easiest to plan for autumn and winter.
Hedges with trees in them
Trees growing in a hedge can be protected by a Tree Preservation Order, and hedges in a conservation area may contain protected trees. If that might apply, check before any cutting:
Recent hedge jobs
Conifer hedge trim in Hillmorton, Rugby
We trimmed a tall conifer hedge with a long-reach hedge trimmer, with sheets laid down to catch the clippings. The result is a flat top and straight, even sides, with the clippings cleared away.
Overgrown hedge cut back and shaped
The hedge had grown too big, so we made it smaller and shaped it. The customer was very happy and would like us to come back again.
Hedge cutting questions
How often should a hedge be cut?
It depends on the species and how formal you want it. Many garden hedges look best with one or two trims a year; fast growers may need more.
Can you cut my hedge in summer?
Often, yes, for a light trim. In spring and summer we check the hedge for nesting birds before we start.
Do you take the clippings away?
Yes. Clearing up is part of the job.
Can you cut back a hedge on a neighbour's side?
We can only work where you have the right to, so tell us about any shared or neighbouring hedges when you get in touch.
