Tree removal and dismantling in Rugby
Taking a tree down is a big decision, and once it's done it can't be undone. We'll give you a straight view on whether removal is really needed, and if it is, we'll take the tree down safely and leave the area tidy.
Both directors, Jaydon and Chris, are NPTC certified, and we carry public liability insurance.
When a tree needs to come down
- It's dead, dying or has serious decay.
- Storm damage has left it split or leaning.
- It has outgrown its spot and is pressing on a house, wall or drive.
- It's the wrong tree in the wrong place for what you want to do with the garden.
If a tree is healthy and the problem is its size, a crown reduction or pruning may be enough. We'll say so if we think it is.
Felling or dismantling?
Felling means bringing the tree down in one piece. It needs a clear area at least as long as the tree is tall, so it's mostly for open ground and larger plots.
Dismantling is how most garden trees in and around Rugby come down. We climb or work from the tree and take it apart in manageable sections, lowering pieces under control so they miss roofs, greenhouses, fences and borders. It takes longer than felling, but it's the safe way to remove a tree in a tight space.
How a removal job runs
- Look at the job together. Send photos on WhatsApp first if that's easier; for most removals we'll still want to see the tree, the access and what's underneath it.
- Check protection. If the tree may be covered by a Tree Preservation Order or sits in a conservation area, that has to be sorted before any work (see below).
- Agree the work. What comes down, how far down the stem goes, and what happens to the timber.
- On the day. One or both of the directors will be there, and usually it's the two of us. We set up a safe work area, take the tree down and clear the brash and timber.
- Finish. We clear up so the area is left tidy.
What happens to the stump?
Most removals leave a stump close to ground level. For larger stumps that need to go, we can take them on using equipment hired in for the job. For small stumps we're happy to point you to a specialist.
Protected trees: check before it comes down
Felling a tree that's covered by a Tree Preservation Order without the council's consent is an offence, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks' notice to the council before most work. Removal is the work most likely to be refused, so it's worth checking early:

Recent tree removal jobs
Tree removed to let more light into the house in Newbold and Brownsover, Rugby
The tree was blocking the light into the customer's house, so we removed it. A lot more light now comes in, and the customer said she would recommend us to her friends and family.
Conifers taken down in a back garden in Overslade, Rugby
We took down a group of large conifers in sections, using ropes and a climber. In the after photo the crowns have gone and the timber is cut into logs, with the last trunk section still being taken down.
Tree removal questions
Can you remove a tree that's close to my house?
Usually, yes. That's what dismantling is for: the tree comes down in small, controlled sections rather than in one go.
Do I need permission to remove a tree?
Only if it's protected by a Tree Preservation Order or stands in a conservation area. If you're not sure, check the Rugby Borough Council pages above, or ask us when we visit.
Will you take the wood away?
We clear the brash and timber as part of the job. If you'd like to keep some logs, tell us when we agree the work.
What if a tree has come down in a storm?
We take on emergency tree work. Call us on 07511 208277, and keep away from anything touching power lines.
